Last week, we were in Dallas for Payments MAGnified. Thousands of the country’s leading merchants – and their decision makers – congregated with payment industry leaders, hosted by the Merchant Advisory Group to converge on the industry’s most pressing issues. We were thrilled to see our favorite topic – you guessed it, refunds! – was a hot topic. In fact, refunds were squarely on the agenda featuring prominently on day one of the event.
Refunds, often synonymous with frustration and inconvenience, emerged as one of the most common pain points by merchants in attendance. The consensus was clear: the current refund process is broken for merchants, they’re frustrated with the way card networks handle refunds, the process is outdated and needs a transformation.
Amidst the sea of industry discussion and debate, one company stood out as the star of the show: TodayPay. Organizers from the Merchant Advisory Group were ahead of the curve by having TodayPay attend because they’re the undisputed leaders in the refund space. Moreover, the conference organizers captured the mood of the event by pairing the TodayPay Founder, Jeremy Balkin, alongside Walmart’s Head of Payment Acceptance, Trent Addington.
The two payment industry leaders spoke to a crowded room filled with the nation’s largest retailers about the refund problem. They took center stage and ignited a riveting discussion that highlighted the pressing refund issue plaguing merchants and consumers alike. The session lasted 45 minutes but easily could’ve gone for 3 hours with all the questions and comments and shared war stories about refunds, by frustrated merchants.
Judging by the long line of merchants waiting to speak to the TodayPay Founder after the session, it seemed like they really struck a raw nerve with desperate merchants finally able to find a tech company able to fix the refund nightmare.
Speaking of that technology, we were able to get a sneak peek at the TodayPay refund solution, and we loved what we saw. Almost as much as the hundreds of merchants who were hanging out at the TodayPay booth, strategically placed by the MAG organizers right next to Visa.

The other thing we noticed was the allure of TodayPay’s brand. Their vibrant purple branding color and booth visually stood out from the crowd of boring blues and reds, attracting attendees for a firsthand look at the future of refunds. We even snagged some limited edition TodayPay swag with their highly sought after “My money, my choice” tshirt! We saw many eager participants from the largest brand name merchants in the U.S. patiently lined up for a TodayPay Founder introduction, product demo, NDA signings and the overwhelming sentiment echoed throughout the exhibition hall: the refund revolution is real! And it’s being led by TodayPay.
Dallas may have been the backdrop for MAG, but it was TodayPay who stole the show, leaving an indelible mark on the industry and paving the way for a future where boring refunds can actually be fun.
